Christingle - 18th December
Our 2009 Christingle service was be held at St Michaels and All Angels church, Ford at 1.30pm.
Peter Pan - 17th December
Beech class
went going
to the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh to see "Peter Pan". Firstly they
enjoyed a Chinese lunch at Jimmy Chang's.
Christmas Lunch - 16th December
On
Wednesday 16th December we had our school Christmas lunch. We invited our
school governors and other school friends. Mrs Morning and her helpers
prepared a wonderful spread for over ninety people. Everyone thoroughly
enjoyed their meal.
Christmas Fair - 13th December
Our school Christmas Fair was being held on Sunday 13th December between 11am and 2pm. We had many stalls including cakes, wine and water, soup and refreshments, filled jars, bran tub and Santa's Grotto. Thanks for supporting us at this great event.
School Christmas Production - 9th December
This
year our school production was the classic "Dick Whittington". The performances
were at
1.30pm and 6pm on Wednesday 9th December.
Christmas Crafts Day - 1st December
On
Tuesday 1st December we were visited by Scremerston First School for
a Christmas Crafts day. We made table decorations, wreaths and fat robins.
We used natural resources from our school grounds including holly berries, ivy,
pine cones and dried beech leaves.
Model Making - 24th and 26th November

Nicola,
through the Creative Partnership, came to our forest school. She showed
the children how to use twigs, leaves and slices of logs to make models.
Oak class made "Guardians of the Forest". Beech and Cherry classes made
Santa and his Reindeer, other forest animals and faces.
Reflective Keyring Workshop - 24th November
Oak
class had a visit from Hetty Chapman who led the children in making reflective
keyrings from all manner of reflective materials.
Apple Orchard - 24th November
Beech class visited Doddington Dairy to plant an orchard of apple trees.
Willow Dome - 18th November
The whole school
planted a willow dome in the forest school.
Visit to Dance City - 6th November
Oak
and Cherry classes went to Dance City to see a production called "The Forest".
They also enjoyed a Chinese meal at Mr Lau's Buffet King restaurant.
Harvest Festival - 24th September
The whole school attended St Michaels and All Angels church for our harvest festival service. The children provided produce that was distributed to the senior citizens of the parish.
Harvesting Our Pumpkins
During October cherry class harvested the pumpkins that they had planted in July. We sold the 19 pumpkins to raise funds for our gardening club.
Gymnastics Club
Every Friday from September to Christmas Noel Hodgson lead Beech and Cherry classes in gymnastic sessions.
Summer Trip - 15th July
On
a very bright Wednesday 15th July the whole school went on our Summer
trip to "The Barn at Beal" to see the birds of prey and then onto Holy Island.
At Beal we met many European birds of prey including eagle owls, snowy owls,
barn owls and kestrels. Our favourite was baby Tinko. In worsening
weather conditions we arrived at the beach on Holy Island. Our spirits,
however, were not dampened by the atrocious cloudbusts. We rock pooled and
found crabs and many types of shellfish. We then walked across to St.
Cuthbert's Island and saw some seals on the way.
Singing Workshop - 14th July
On
Tuesday 14th July we had a Key Stage 1 sing-a-long with our friends
at Scremerston school. Our singing coaches were Alison Coates and Frances
Ord. We sang "Jump Jim Joe", "Here Comes Sally" and African songs.
We had lots of fun.
First School's Kwik Cricket - 10th July
This
was held at Berwick Middle School with year 3 and 4 who went with Miss Waugh.
Everyone had a brilliant time.
Summer Fair - 4th July

On
Saturday 4th July the
annual five aside football competition took place with under 8's and 10's.
There were various stalls, face painting, bat the rat, coconut shy, tombola and
B-B-Q. Great fun was had by all and we raised over £1000.
Football - 1st July
On
Wednesday 1st July Years 3 and 4 visited Berwick High School to take part in a
football competition. We entered 2 mixed teams as Germany and Austria.
We really enjoyed the event despite the scorching heat. Thankfully the
thunderstorm held off until we were on the bus coming home.
Hotspur Festival - 27th June
The
700th anniversary was celebrated on Saturday 27th June. Our
school had to research, design and make a banner. Years 2 and 3 visited
Alnwick castle to research the history of the Percy family who are celebrating
700 years of ownership. We had a great time dressing up as knights and
ladies at the Knights' Quest.
Whithough Park - 17th to 19th June

Year
4 and Miss Waugh went on a residential with Scremerston, Cornhill and Norham
schools. Over the three days we made friends and worked with the children
from the other schools. The activities included swimming, orienteering, an
outdoor rope course and indoor games sessions.
Black Friday - 12th June
On
Friday 12th June a group of musicians called "The Black Friday Band"
came to our school. They introduced us to many different instruments
including violin, electric cello, electric and acoustic guitar, clarinet, flute,
saxophone, trumpet, keyboard and drums. They played well known TV theme
tunes. The group were call "Black Friday" because they all wore black and
only perform on a Friday.
Life Education Centre - 10th June
On Wednesday 10th June we were visit by the Life Education Centre. We took part in workshops. Years 1 and 2 learnt about "My Wonderful Body", Reception looked at "All About Me" and Years 3 and 4 "Meet the Brain".
Countryside Day - 4th June
On
Thursday 4th June we all went to the
Countryside Day at Glendale Show Field. Everyone enjoyed all the various
activities.
May Day - 1st May
On
Friday 1st May class 2 went to dance around a May pole in Berwick for
the 500th riding of the bounds. Then they walked around the
walls of the town and had lunch at the Reivers Tryst Cafe.
Drama Workshop - 5th March
On
March 5th years 3 and 4 visited Longridge Towers School for a drama
workshop with Chrissie from Berwick Museum. We learnt about Lady
Jerningham (1850-1902) who was the last occupant of the house prior to it
becoming a convent.
Creative Partnership
During
the Spring term the
whole school have been finding out about the richness and diversity of modern
Britain. With a grant from Creative Partnerships we have been to Newcastle
and travelled on the Metro. We have worked with three creative
practitioners to take photographs, do silk painting and make models. As
part of our exploration of modern Britain we established links with St. Paul's
School, Newcastle and St. George's, Enfield.
