Religious Education

Religious Education
At Hugh Joicey C of E Aided First School, we are proud to be part of a school community which is loving, nurturing and aspirational. R.E. is a core subject and we teach the locally agreed syllabus as directed by the Diocese of Durham and Newcastle, following the Understanding Christianity resource.
Our main aim is for pupils to be able to hold balanced and informed conversations about religion and belief.
We also aim:
  • To enable pupils to know about and understand Christianity as a living faith that influences the lives of people worldwide and as the religion that has most shapes British culture and heritage.
  • To enable pupils to know and understand about other major world religions and non-religious world views, their impact on society, culture and the wider world, enabling pupils to express ideas and insights.
  • To contribute to the development of pupils' own spiritual/philosophical convictions, exploring and enriching their own beliefs and values.
